About us
Action Psychology SA is a private psychology practice located in the heart of Gawler and founded by Janice James-Valentine (JJV)
JJV is a registered psychologist and a registered teacher. She has a long history in education and psychology and is experienced in the holistic support of children, adolescents, adults, families, school personnel and systems.
JJV is passionate about young people and their ability to thrive at school. She began working in the public school sector, consulting in as many as twenty-eight schools and pre-schools within the Gawler and Barossa districts. In addition to her work with young people, the delivery of professional development to school personnel was a highlight of her time with DECS. She enjoyed her work with parent groups and the wider community.
A move to Trinity College Gawler Inc. provided a magnificent challenge which included involvement in the establishment and leadership of the College-wide Learning Support and Counselling Faculties. Wider involvement within the student enrolment area, policy writing, risk and critical incident management and the role of professional supervision and evaluation added to her all round skill development.
On-going professional development saw her recognition as an Advanced Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) practitioner and a certified Forgiveness Trainer (Tariq Khamisa Foundation).
Prince Alfred College was a highlight in JJV’s career. She was fortunate to be given the opportunity to assist in the development and implementation of a new model of student support across the College. Against the deficit model, the Student Success Team (SST) and Hub thrived.
In January 2015 JJV embarked upon her own private practice (Action Psychology SA) which allowed her to utilize the extensive training and experience she had accrued over many years.
In 2020, after feeling frustrated due to the long waiting lists she had for those in need, JJV moved to a larger and more useful location in Gawler, SA. JJV also completed grueling training to become a National Psychology Board Approved Supervisor and Action Psychology SA grew into a well-respected training practice for graduate psychologists.
The practice employs Registered Psychologists, Provisional Psychologists (Internships), Mental Health Social Workers, Mental Health Professionals, Speech/Language Therapist, and Developmental Educator.
The practitioners are supported by a Practice Manager, Practice Assistants, and a Facilities Manager.
Action Psychology SA has a huge range of services on offer and welcomes clients of all ages and from diverse backgrounds. Specific support services for those with Mental Health Care Plans, NDIS participants and private clients are available. Individual therapy sessions are offered as well as small group sessions (Lego Therapy, Social - Emotional Learning & DBT).
Parent workshops are currently being planned.
A very exciting place to be!
